i must say that i just love that idea about trade post & personal shop.. and well if any of u guys ever played Conquer then u know it will be ok! there is like a market where u can pick ur vending spot and start selling.. and for the spam... when u open ur shop u can put macro shout on.. but that will only show in TRADE... so actualy it is all real simple, i wonder why it isnt in the game allrady. hope this auction and vendor comes to the game well good luck pushing it through

Great idea !
I think, the easiest system would be like this:
a-net makes a town, with an NPC who asks what yer looking for...and you give the right term for it blabla... so not like ''wtb 15^50 zodiac sword''...you just put in ''zodiac sword'' and then you should have the ability to choose the mods...11^50 , 10/10, +5 energy or what ever ! from non-perfect to perfect ! then click search, and the NPC would tell you who has this weapon ! the seller should just ''upload'' his weapon, and gw should know the mods...this way, scamming can be avoided. and ofc, the seller should put in a price.
and about yer own shop...there should be a price on it, ofc ! I think about 20K would do the trick

but hey, this is just my idea

Ooh O.o

I remember that. So frightening.

Also, the fact thtat there were so many shops standing around in town you really needed to change your selling tactics. Like setting your shop up on top of a lamp post or bench.. Or buying a bunch of supplies and setting your shop up in the middle of a battlefield.

Can my private shop be called "Fronty's Meat Market: Not a front since 1900!", and can it be a front for my underground drug ring?

I think that auction house is the way to go. If set up like the auction on this website, with a search feature, it is fairly easy to find what you are looking for. But since it will be in-game the transaction could be completed automatically after the auction closes, with gold and item(s) being automatically transfered between accounts. That would also eliminate dead-beats who want to welsh on a done deal.

I like most of the ideas here.

I get some decent items (even though I don't farm) but I don't have the half an hour of time to blow trying to sell my 20 sundering bow string.

What might be cool is that the trading districts already there could be modified... e.g. Materials could accept X amount of player stuff to trade and take a cut of the profit (5%?). You could sort by whatever you wanted, player or NPC-supplied.

Or maybe a different branch of the Xunlai... Xunlai Auction House?

I don't know. The current model sucks, though.

They need an escrow system like EVE Online.
Basically:
1] I want to sell X. I put it in escrow, in the correct category, with a sell price. It disappears from my inventory, and I pay a small fee to broker.
2] Buyer browses category, sees X listed, buys it. I get sales price I set, buyer gets X, everyone happy, no spam.

In order to prevent exploiting this as a storage mechanism (think about it), there would have to be a limit on how many open sell orders you could have at one time.

Something's gotta be done. Though I'm not too fond of the idea of private shops, I would indeed want an auction house or anything to make it easier to sell stuff.

Of course the auction house would have to be categorized.

Other players could then use on NPC to search for the specific item they're looking for, and a list would pop up showing where the item was, what price, and where the house was located. Players then trotted over to that house, found the merchant and bought the item, assuming nobody got there first.

Seems like a hassle? Nah....pretty easy and painless, actually. They implemented a horse system and a temporary running speed buff to help you get on your merry little way. And players went nuts buying/decorating their houses. Could have guild houses/villas/mansions also where you could have different merchants/traders. Great stuff!
Oh my god. I love this idea. If someone implemented this into the game, it would own the crap out of every game out there.

I was thinking that we could just have a town bulletin board system, perhaps as a tab next to the trade channel, perhaps as a location one would have to go up to and post messages or read messages at. hopefully we could just drag the items to the BBS and type in a price. this would stay up only while you were in town, and ppl could click on your name or item to message you to buy from you.

This has the bonus of reducing chatter while not being overwhelming, since there are maximum limits to the number of ppl in a town...?

I'd rather a trade system be beyond the district you are currently in.

I think an NPC that allows you to search through via different catergories such as character name, item name, weapon type, etc. This would be a simpler method and more efficient than having physical stores.

i like this idea the best... the concept of 'owning' ones own shop seems a bit tedious for those of us who dont have that much to sell, and then going off to a selling district would be even worse.. imaging trying to trawl through all the wts to find what you are looking for? I agree selling spammers are a pain, i do tend to ignore them, but the idea of an escrow system as above sounds quite good.. still the only problem I can see is the amount of items that would be up for sale, there would be thousands!

I realize my suggestion is not the least burdonsome on the seller, but there are ways to simplify the sale, such as using the control-click on item to place the description into the list which you could just edit with the exact percentages and plusses, and once you have your list you could copy it with ^C and when changing to another town, just paste (^V) it into the new town's bulletin.

I'm just trying to simplify the system for the programmer. also, if the system reduced the server traffic, that would seem to be a bonus for Anet, which might get them to implement it faster. You're right, pajamas, that it would be much more efficient for both the seller and buyer if the system worked across all districts in a town, and perhaps if it reduces the server load enough, that would be a possibility. The amount of times GW crashes now a days seems to indicate that the servers are almost tapped out.

Of course, they could implement a new merchant type, the auctioneer, and you could give the merchant an item, it would be seen by all checking in with the auctioneer, just like the material traders are, but with a count-down timer added... the item goes in at a base price, and there is 10 seconds for someone to "buy" it at that price, but instead of allowing the exchange to go through, the auctioneer steps up the price to the next level for 10 seconds. if noone buys it at that level, the auctioneer lets it go at the previously accepted price, otherwise if someone is willing to pay the new price, he steps it up again and again, until noone is willing to go higher. he then sells it at the last accepted price...? of course i should post that at the auction thread:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...=20264&page=10

To prevent scams, the autioneer could take 10%-25% of the aution price, so you can't have friends keep buying items just to raise the expected price.

I have seen something similar (like a private shop) in knight online. Basically, player goes to "Merchant Mode"...sits on the floor and sets up a small table in front of himself. Then he puts like max 10 things for trading there, and sets price for every item. So basically, you can only buy item for that specific price...no bidding.

However I do like the idea to give your item to special merchant and set a price for it...so there could be less mess in towns.

What if, kinda like the skills from the preist, you give ur items to an auctioneer (npc) and people could go to bows, click the upgrades they want, then search the inventory for an item in stock like that, then either have an IGN to pm, or a straight up offer on the item. So for example:

I'm looking for a...
Prefix Mod Weapon* Suffix Mod Inherent(none)
Silencing Sword(Spatha) Fortitude +__ 15% in a Stance
... ... ... ...
... ... ... ...

*Bows would be categorized as Flat, Recurve etc. before the skin
**Option for NONE would be available on all mods.
ps~my table didnt show up to well after it takes the spaces away XD

Just like the Preist of Balthazar, i think its easy enough to find what im looking for.

ALSO:

I dont think that making personal owned shops would work, at all, to reduce the spam. If anythnig, it will increase the amount of lag. That's about it. If you had to pay for the use of one, who would pay extra just to go away for a while? unless its under 1k, I wouldnt even give it a second thought. I would just sell something on here . I like auctions much better.
